Disclaimer & Limitations

HoldVault is a personal tracking tool, not a financial data provider. Please read this before relying on any number shown in the app.

Not financial advice

Nothing in HoldVault — prices, gains, targets, Smart Insights, or the "What If" simulator — is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. It's a way to see your own numbers in one place. Always verify anything important against the source exchange or wallet before acting on it.

Where prices come from, and in what order

For each coin, HoldVault checks these public sources, in this order, and uses the first one that has a price for that coin:

  1. Coinbase
  2. MEXC
  3. Kraken
  4. Binance
  5. CoinGecko — checked last, since it covers the widest range of smaller/newer coins the other four don't list.

FX (currency conversion) rates come from open.er-api.com.

Known limitations

  • Some coins won't have a price. Very new or low-volume tokens may not be listed on any of the five sources above. When that happens, HoldVault shows "price unavailable" instead of guessing, and excludes that holding's Current Value and Gain/Loss from your totals — but its cost is still counted in Cost Basis, so a portfolio with unpriced coins may show a more negative gain than reality until pricing is found. Hover the "price unavailable" text in the table to see which sources were checked.
  • Prices are live, not historical. Every number reflects the current market price at the moment the page loads or refreshes — not the price at any specific past date.
  • Currency conversion uses today's rate, not the rate on your purchase date. If you bought in a currency other than your display currency, that cost is converted at today's live exchange rate every time you view it — not the rate on the day you actually paid. If the exchange-rate service is temporarily unavailable, affected holdings are clearly flagged with a "conversion failed" warning rather than silently showing a wrong number.
  • Ticker symbols can be ambiguous. Some tickers are shared by more than one unrelated coin across different projects. HoldVault matches by symbol; for very generic or obscure tickers, in rare cases the price shown could reflect a different coin sharing that ticker. Every price shows a small logo of the exchange (or CoinGecko) it came from — click any price to verify against that source, or to enter a corrected price by hand if something looks off.
  • Rows with missing or invalid data are skipped, not guessed. If a row in your uploaded file is missing a symbol or has an unreadable quantity/cost, it's left out of your portfolio rather than included with a made-up value. You'll see exactly which rows and why in a warning banner after import.
  • No push notifications or emails. Target price alerts and signals are visual only, shown while the dashboard is open in your browser.
  • Portfolio history is local to your browser. Snapshots used for the history chart live in your browser's storage, not on a server. Clearing browser data erases them.
